At Lane’s Appliance Repair, we are dedicated to providing you with top-quality domestic appliance repair. Part of the kitchen appliance repair service we offer is somewhat counter-intuitive. We are here to educate you about how to diagnose appliance trouble. While not everyone is a handyman or woman, there are some basic tips that we can offer which may keep you from having to call us in the first place. Sometimes, refrigerator repair or stove repair take just a few minutes, and is something that we can easily advise you about in a blog. Although that is more of the exception than the rule (hence our existence as an appliance repair company in the first place), we want our clients to be set up for financial success in whatever way we can help. If that means providing them with affordable domestic appliance service, that’s a win-win! If, however, there is an issue that doesn’t require our expertise, read on, because this blog’s for you.
Electric Stove Problems
One of the most common issues we hear about, believe it or not…are you ready for this…is that the electric stove won’t heat. That is a fairly fundamental problem in our estimation. The first place you should start, if you feel comfortable doing so, is to check on the heating coil and its connection. To do so, turn off the unit and let it cool completely before investigating. If there are cracks or blisters (sometimes caused by food or liquid lingering) on the coils, exchange it for a coil of the same size. This will help you diagnose if the issue has to do with the connection or the coil itself.
Another issue we see on an electric range is that it just doesn’t work at all, or perhaps, it only does so occasionally. You can’t have that kind of unreliability. The first place you should start is with the connection to the power source, by way of checking on the circuit breaker to see if you’ve blown a fuse. If so, that’s great news! Flip the breaker, and you should be all set. If that isn’t the issue, check to see if the power cord is plugged in (it happens more than you’d think), check on the outlet voltage, and make sure you aren’t using an extension cord, either. If those options aren’t working, give your friendly appliance repair specialists a call, and we will be happy to help you out in a timely manner!
Gas Range Repair and Things To Test
If you happen to have a gas stove, and none of the elements are working, it’s a good idea to check out the gas supply to make sure that gas is flowing. It sounds simple, but you might be surprised by how often this is the gas stove repair that needs to be done to solve the problem. All things considered, it beats a full-on replacement!
If, however, the problem is localized on one burner, it’s more likely the case that the problem lies in the fact that a control part isn’t functioning properly, or a gas line leading to that burner has failed. If you are having a burner issue, it’s a good idea to check on the pilot itself, to make sure it is lit. If the pilot is ignited but the burner isn’t, it’s likely that the ignition tube is the culprit by being clogged. Do your best to clean the tubes to get whatever hindrance is in the way
Cleaning Your Stovetop
Your stovetop’s well-being should not be left up to chance. It’s an easy habit to only clean your burners and elements a few times a year while you are doing a deep spring or fall cleaning. Stovetop and ovens are expensive, and usually come as a packaged deal. We at Lane’s Repair want to advise you to protect your investment by cleaning your stovetop as often as you can. Here’s how you do it.
Look, we get it. It’s not fun to try to get all of the crumbs and grime out of each individual nook and cranny. It’s a hassle, actually, and that is probably why it’s easy to leave that task to when you move out of your apartment or once per year in your home. But still, employing these techniques can make the job more manageable. Once it’s complete, you’ll feel much better.
Use White Vinegar
Get those annoying streaks and tough-to-get stains out by using white vinegar, a powerful cleaning agent. Get a spray bottle and use one part vinegar and two parts water. The acidity of the vinegar helps remove build-up and serves as a disinfectant as well.
Lemon and Baking Soda
Lemons can get through grease like few other natural cleaning agents. Throw in a little baking soda and its antibacterial nature, and you’ve got yourself a cocktail to cut through even the nastiest of build-up in your stovetop. What’s more, you don’t have to worry about this combination scratching up your surface.
